The all-new 2013 Mazda CX-5 earned a Top Safety Pick award on Tuesday from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety. The CX-5 earned "good" ratings in the IIHS front, side, rollover and rear impact crash tests.
Standard safety equipment on the Mazda CX-5 include: six airbags, anti-lock disk brakes, daytime running lights, dynamic stability control and traction control, seat belt pre-tensioners, and a fold-away brake pedal assembly.
In 2010, the IIHS made the criteria for earning the Top Safety Pick award tougher by adding the roof strength test. Since the addition of the roof strength test in 2010, only two Mazda have earned the Top Safety Pick award: the CX-5 crossover and the Mazda3.
It joins an elite group A small SUV, which include 2013 Mitsubishi Outlander and Subaru Forester, to earn the designation, IIHS said.
