The Ford Racing team has announced that it will introduce two Ford Ranger pickups in the 2014 Dakar Rally -raid, to be held from January 5-18 in South America. Built in South Africa by Neil Woolridge Motorsport, the two Ranger pickups racing will be conducted by Argentine Lucio Alvarez and Chris Visser South Africa.
Based on Double Cab 4x4 version of the Ford Ranger, the Dakar -Prep composites Pickups are complete and are powered by a 5.0-liter V8 engine that develops 349 hp at 4,500 rpm and 413 lb -ft of torque at 4100 rpm.
The engine is linked to a gearbox six-speed sequential --, which sends power to all four wheels. The Ford Ranger Dakar also has limited slip differentials in each axis (132 liters) fuel tank of 500 liters. Why so great? Well, because the racing Pickups use on average 90 liters of fuel per 100 km (2.6 miles per U.S. gallon) in race conditions in sand and 28 l/100 km (8.4 miles per gallon U.S. . .) during normal road driving.
Cars have independent front and rear suspension and Brembo rear brakes are cooled with water, the front are air cooled. Each of the Ford Ranger s weighs 1,975 kg (4354 lbs) and can reach a top speed of 106 mph.
Ford Motor Company s Global Product Developments Neil Wooldridge division attended Motor sport in the construction of the Ford Ranger s, one of which has already been completed and will begin testing in August. The second Ford Ranger is under construction and will be completed in late October. Logistics and European operations will be managed by South Racing GmbH based in Frackfurt.
The 2014 Dakar will be the sixth consecutive race in South America, and will include Bolivia for the first time. The event will last for more than 5.281 miles of rough terrain between Rosario, Argentina and Valparaiso, Chile.
