Ford is planning to introduce the next generation Ford Fusion mid-size sedan with a smaller engine: the 1.6 liter EcoBoost. Along with EcoBoost technology, this engine will also feature turbocharging and direct-injection.
The 1.6 liter engine might sound a little too small for powering a mid-size sedan. A 2.0 liter four cylinder EcoBoost engine will be available starting from the SEL trim level. The 2013 Ford Fusion will feature advanced technologies such as a Start/Stop system.
Ford is taking its engine downsizing strategy to extremes with the next-generation Ford Fusion mid-size sedan, with plans to offer a 1.6-liter 4-cylinder version. That may sound unbelievably small, but the engine will get Ford’s EcoBoost technology with turbocharging and direct-injection and should deliver roughly 180-hp.
Well, this is exactly what Ford plans to do with the 2013 Ford Fusion, which will be offered with a 1.6-liter Ecoboost powerplant, as Ford Inside News writes.
The engine will come with an output of around 247 hp and 270 lb-ft (366 Nm).
However, Ford won’t only rely on downsizing to reduce the fuel consumption of the 2013 Ford Fusion. The company is inspiring from the European automotive market, which has already been flooded by eco versions of various cars that use all sorts of tweaks to increase efficiency.
