All-Wheel Drive is an electronically controlled system that distributes engine power between the front and rear wheels quickly and automatically, depending on which wheel pair (front or rear wheels) has the best grip at the moment. The system helps enhance stability and reduces understeer and oversteer, contributing to increased driver control and a comfortable ride.
Volvo's Dynamic Stability and Traction Control system continuously registers the car's roll rate, making it possible to detect slowly building skids at an early stage. Generally, the system helps stabilise the car in evasive manoeuvres, particularly when the car is exposed to high lateral forces.
DRIVER SUPPORT AND SAFETY SYSTEMS
Roll Stability Control (RSC) and Roll-Over Protection System (ROPS)This function helps stabilise the car and reduces the risk of rolling over in an accident.
If a rollover accident should still occur, the Roll-Over Protection System helps protect the passengers. The Volvo On Call system can now be combined with the Bluetooth mobile phone service.
Volvo Cars has developed a number of in-house functionality and driver support, such as WHIPS (Whiplash Protection System), SIPS (Side Impact Protection System) and IC (Inflatable Curtain). All are fitted as standard in the Volvo XC90. All seven seats are equipped with three-point inertia-reel seat belts, belt pre-tensioners and head restraints.
The Volvo XC90 offers classic Volvo attributes in a midsize SUV. A second-row child booster seat is standard equipment. Safety features include electronic stability control, side-impact and side curtain airbags, Roll Stability Control, Blind Spot Information System, and all-disc anti-lock brakes with electronic brake-force distribution.
