2012 Chevrolet Tahoe Reviews--There's not much to distinguish the Tahoe Hybrid model, but it does have several subtle modifications that improve aerodynamics and reduce weight, along with a number of Hybrid badges and, inside, a different display screen.A 320-horsepower, 5.3-liter V-8 and six-speed automatic transmission provide power for most of the Tahoe lineup. Base versions of the Chevy Tahoe don't quite ride as well as top-of-the-line Yukon and Escalade models with the magnetic suspension, however, so check those out if you're looking to splurge a little.
Simple and straightforward, yet supremely comfortable is the best way to describe the Chevy Tahoe's interior. Most Tahoe models come with large, supportive front bucket seats, and in both the first and second rows there's plenty of headroom and legroom. The Chevy Tahoe lives up to its impression of security and solidity, with excellent four- and five-star ratings from the federal government in frontal and side impact. The IIHS hasn't rated the Tahoe or the nearly identical Yukon. Side-curtain bags in the Tahoe cover all three rows. The 2012 Chevrolet Tahoe is pretty much unchanged. On the Tahoe LTZ trim, a new heated steering wheel is standard.
The 2012 Chevrolet Tahoe is available in three trim levels: LS, LT and LTZ. The Tahoe Hybrid is reviewed separately. The base Tahoe LS comes standard with 17-inch alloy wheels, tri-zone manual climate control, power front seats, a 60/40-split second-row seat and 50/50-split removable third-row seat. Among options not available on the LT are second-row captain's chairs and a Luxury package with heated front and second-row seats (with power release), power-folding mirrors and a power rear lift gate. LTZ-trimmed Chevy Tahoe’s include the LT Luxury package content with the captain's chairs as standard equipment and add 20-inch wheels, an upgraded air suspension, perforated leather-trimmed seating with more adjustments, heated and ventilated front seats, power flip-and-fold second-row seats, a hard-drive-based navigation system and a 10-speaker Bose surround-sound audio system with digital-music storage. The second-row split bench seat is still optional. LTZ options include power-retractable assist steps and a blind-spot warning system.
A six-speed automatic transmission transmits power through the rear wheels on 2WD models or all four wheels on 4WD models. A properly equipped Tahoe can tow up to 8,500 pounds. Standard safety equipment on the 2012 Chevy Tahoe includes antilock disc brakes, traction and stability control, front-seat side airbags, side curtain airbags and OnStar emergency telematics. Rear parking sensors and a rearview camera are available on every Tahoe, while the Tahoe LTZ can be had with a blind-spot warning system.
In government crash safety tests, the Chevy Tahoe earned an overall rating of four stars (out of five), with five stars for overall frontal-impact crash protection and five stars for overall side-impact crash protection. One of the Tahoe's advantages over its competition is the ability to accommodate nine occupants with the LS's available front split bench seat. However, the Tahoe lacks a convenient flat-folding third-row seat. With the third seat in place, there's barely 17 cubic feet of cargo space behind the seat. If maximum passenger space isn't a priority, the Chevy Tahoe can be had with bucket seats in the middle row.
Fully loaded with cargo and passengers, the 2012 Chevrolet Tahoe weighs more than 3 tons. While other large crossovers and minivans can seat eight people, the Tahoe's main attraction for a vehicle this size is its towing and off-road ability. Family boats, extra cars and small horse trailers easily fall within the Chevy Tahoe's maximum towing capacity when properly equipped.
The 2012 Chevrolet Tahoe will come with few changes. GM had originally planned the introduction of the next generation Chevrolet Tahoe with the 2012 model, but due to an evolving market, plans changed. The LS trim has 17-inch wheels, front buck seats, a center console, a 60/40-split second row, and a 50/50-split removable third row. The GMT900-series Tahoe models have an outstanding reputation for performance and reliability. Options will include rear-parking sensors, rearview camera, and a blind-spot warning system. The 2012 Chevrolet Tahoe should be in showrooms by late 2011.
